Happy First Birthday, Sophia. It's hard to believe that a year ago today you joined our lives. You have brought us much joy and filled our hearts with love. May the next year be one of blessings and adventure. We love you, monkey.

The One Year Check-Up
We saw the doctor today. Woo hoo, nothing better than to start your day with a 8:20 am doctor's appointment. All went smoothly though, regardless of the nagging cough she can't seem to shake. Nothing to do but wait it out. So here are the updated stats:
Weight: 22 pounds 10 ounces (between the 50th and 75th percentiles)
Height: 30.5 inches (off the percentile scale --I just don't know where she gets her height from!)

Random Pictures
Just thought I would post some pictures taken in the last month. They really don't have much to do with anything specific. They are just fun!
It always amazes me what kids find fun to play with. Sophia will crawl like crazy to get to her wooden spoon. Her favorite thing to do with it is to band the heck out of stuff---tables, toys, parents, dog.
Crawling on all fours has really opened the world up to Sophia. She can get more places quicker than before. She is also mastering the art of getting up and over things. One day she decided she wanted to see what the bottom of the exersaucer looked like.
Crawling is hard work --time for a break!
Sophia's new found walking mobility (that is walking while keeping her hands on the walls or cupboards --no independant long walks yet) means that she can get into so much more. THe baking equipment cupboard is one without the elastic band closure, so she is free to play with all thins baking. She particularly loves chewing on my silicone muffin cups. At least they are non toxic!
Happy, smiley girl!
Peek-a-boo
A Daddy-Baby moment. Sophia loves walking on the grass!
Who can deny this beautiful little face. She really is the light of our lives.

Thank You Starbucks!
In this modern day and age with its fancy toys that are designed to stimulate any and every sense that your baby has, my child has chosen the humble drinking straw as her amusement of choice. The simple straw keeps Sophia entertained for ten to twenty minutes as a time. She can chew it, crunch it, twist it, bend it and basically destroy it and it doesn't break. It's fabulous! Now I can validate my $4.00 Starbucks coffee by taking a handful of straws with me when I leave! :) Who knew?

Vancouver highlights
David had to go to Dauphin, Manitoba, this last weekend to offer music leadership at the annual UC Conference meeting with Adam, his brother, and Alison, a good friend of both. This left me with the opportunity to head off to Vancouver for a visit. It was a lovely week full of sunshine, heat, family and friends. We even had a surprise visit from Angela who lives all the way up in Kamloops! A good time was had by all!
We timed our trip well enough that we got the chance to help Auntie Ciara celebrate her birthday! Ciara had planned a nice quiet lunch date with a couple of colleagues and Angela, which would have been a good enough celebration we suppose. But Tanya and I decided to crash the party lunch and bring our squirmy children with us. We met Ciara at the entrance of the restuarant with party hats and balloons. She turned bright red and the rest of us enjoyed calling attention to her. Sophia was a good sport and wore the party hat without complaining and then later on tried to eat it...sigh.
Sophia and fellow squirmy party crasher, Sheliza!
There is always time for a Grandpa cuddle.
The following would fall under the category of "things Uncle Todd taught me or lets me get away with..."
Uncle Todd lets me get away with playing on his computer. Mommy doesn't let me do that. She's no fun. (Look at that typing posture!)
Uncle Todd taught me how to high five, and now EVERYBODY gets me to do it!
Grandma and Grandpa kept alot of the toys Todd and I played with when we were younger. They are great. This toy is particularly fun. Sophia sits on it and waits patiently until someone pushes her along. She can't quite get herself going on it, yet. But as you can see in the pictures, she loves it!

Bad Habits My Uncle Taught Me
I love going home. I enjoy visiting with my family. And these trips are especially meaningful for Sophia who always leaves with new experiences under her belt thanks to her Uncle Todd. This trip was no exception. Sophia wants what everybody else has and this includes things in the food and drink category. Todd and I went for a Slurpee run (because it was stupid hot in Vancouver when we were there) which meant that there were funny looking blue cups with tempting plastic thingies sticking out of them. They had to be chewed!! So began Sophia Kathleen's slurpee education.
The end result: suction was achieved and Coke slurpee was tasted. She went back for more...
