Walking Videos

It's strange to believe that only a month ago, we were watching Jacob take his first tentative steps. Now, he is toddling with the best of them and can truly be called a toddler. In fact, it was (as most parents already know) a lot easier when he wasn't walking. Now he gets into absolutely everything. He gets into the dog food, he gets into the pantry, he manages to find every little tiny scrap of paper or speck of dirt on the floor and pop it into his mouth (if only he would eat his dinner with the same kind of reckless abandon, although that is going better...). We have squeaker shoes for him like we had for Sophia, and they are a godsend - we can actually take our eyes off him for a second to do something (like pay his sister some much needed attention) without him toddling himself into some unknown danger. Of course, he still makes a bee-line for the worst possible location, but at least we can hear when he is getting close to the dog dish and retrieve it. On an unrelated note, Haley is getting skinny for some reason...

Here are a few videos showing his progress from the end of of December to now. Quite amazing, and still a few significant sit-down moments, but I would say officially a toddler!

December 27, 2009: Christmas in Winnipeg.

January 26, 2010: it's great to have a big sister to encourage you to reach that next big milestone.

February 11, 2010: Waiting for swimming lessons to start. Jacob does love the swimming lessons, and he seems to have no fear of water. And yes, those are the smallest swimming trunks we could find for him, They're more like capris, really. He's a small one, for sure.

February 12, 2010: playing around in his sister's room, demonstrating his relatively new ability to get up from the middle of the floor without having to crawl to a piece of furniture first. This video also demonstrates how easily it is to amuse a sleep-deprived dad. Did we mention Sophia isn't sleeping these days?

and for fun, here is a super-slow-mo (and terrible quality) video of some of jacob's first steps. All it really needs is big godzilla-style footstep sound effects. you can hear it now: BOOM. BOOM. AIEEE, ze monster is approaching!!!

Jacob Walking

More details soon...

Silent stalker

Well, it finally happened.... Jacob decided this week that he was going to walk, all by himself. It was incredible to watch him go from his first tentative steps to steps with turns to full on walking. He still falls down, but who doesn't from time to time? He loves walking with his arms out, with his hands on his belly, carrying things, and especially naked (sorry, no pictures for you all). He gets around pretty darned quick, and he is silent. When he crawls, I can tell where he is (slapping hands on the floor is a dead give away!). But he is light on his feet. I have almost stepped on or tripped over him several times this week. One minute he's in the living room and Wham, he's under your feet in the kitchen. So, to combat this dangerous habit we have bought him squeaker shoes (yes, Sophia had those, and yes, they probably will drive everyone but us crazy, but oh well --we know where he is!!) and he wears them around the house. It helps, really it does!

VIDEO TO COME (please be patient!)
